Car Inspection in Phoenix, AZ

A Phoenix car is bought for what it does not have: rust. That is a real advantage and it is also the reason buyers stop looking. Desert heat does its own damage, and it does it to everything the cold would have spared.

No rust is not the same as no wear

Sustained heat is hard on the things made of rubber and plastic: hoses, belts, bushes, seals, wiring insulation, dashboards and headlight lenses. It shortens battery life to a fraction of what a northern car gets, and it asks the cooling system and the air conditioning to work at their limit for months at a time.

None of that shows in photographs, and a short test drive in the evening will not find it. A car that has spent fifteen summers here can be structurally immaculate and still owe you a cooling system.

On this kind of purchase

  • ✓Cooling system pressure-tested and checked under load, not glanced at
  • ✓Air conditioning output measured, along with compressor and condenser condition
  • ✓Hoses, belts, bushes and seals for heat hardening and cracking
  • ✓Battery condition and charging system, which Phoenix heat ages early

Every inspection also covers the full checklist — engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, tires, body and interior — with a road test where the seller permits one.

Worth knowing first

Does Arizona require a safety inspection?

No. Arizona has no annual safety inspection for private vehicles. Emissions testing applies in the Phoenix and Tucson areas, which is a separate thing.

Is a desert car really a better buy?

Often yes, on the body and underneath. The trade is heat wear on rubber, plastic, cooling and air conditioning — so the inspection weights those heavily on a Valley car.

I am buying from out of state. Can you inspect before it ships?

That is a good part of what we do. The report reaches you minutes after the inspector finishes, which is usually well before you have to commit to transport.
