Pre-Purchase Car Inspection in Bastrop, TX
Bastrop grew up on the Colorado River, and Central Texas rain does not arrive gently. When creeks and low-water crossings flood, cars get caught in them, and a car that has been in water can be cleaned, dried and offered for sale within weeks, looking perfectly ordinary.
Booking starts with the ZIP the vehicle is in, so you know whether we can cover Bastrop before you fill in anything else.
Water leaves traces, if you know where to look
A flooded car is rarely obvious from the driver seat. New carpet and a strong air freshener cover the cabin; the damage that matters is in places nobody shampoos: silt under the seat rails and in the spare-tire well, rust on seat-mount bolts and pedal brackets that should be bright, fogged lamps, and corrosion inside connectors behind the dash and under the seats.
Electrical faults from flood water often appear months later, as intermittent warning lights, failing modules or power windows with a mind of their own. That is why the inspection reads the stored fault codes, looks for signs that codes were recently cleared, and photographs the places water collects, so you can judge for yourself.
Not every car with a damp carpet has been in a flood, and the report says what was found, not what might have been. If the signs are there, you will see them before you pay, not after.
On this kind of purchase
- ✓Silt, water lines and rust under the seats, in the spare-tire well and behind trim
- ✓Seat rails, pedal brackets and fasteners that should not be corroded on a car this age
- ✓Connectors and wiring under the seats and dash for green corrosion
- ✓Fault codes read, including signs that they were recently cleared
- ✓Title history noted where it shows a flood, salvage or rebuilt brand
Every inspection also covers the full checklist — engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, tires, body and interior — with a road test where the seller permits one.
Not every town has the same depth of cover. Enter the ZIP and we will tell you honestly what we can promise for that address.
Worth knowing first
Can you tell if a car has been in a flood?
Often, yes. Water leaves silt, rust and corrosion in places that are hard to clean, and the inspector photographs them. A clean flood check is not a guarantee, but the common signs are looked for on every car.
The title is clean. Does that rule out flood damage?
No. A flood brand only appears if the car was declared a loss and branded. A car repaired privately, or never claimed on insurance, can carry a clean title and still have been underwater.
Does Bastrop County need an emissions test?
No. Bastrop County is not one of the Texas counties with emissions testing, and since January 2025 Texas has no safety inspection for private vehicles either, so nothing checks a used car here unless the buyer arranges it.
Do you come out to Elgin and Smithville?
Yes. The inspector goes to wherever the car is in Bastrop County, a dealer lot or a driveway, and arranges the time with the seller.
What does it cost?
$249 for an everyday car, truck or SUV, and $499 for luxury, commercial and older vehicles. Nothing is paid until the report is ready.
