Pre-Purchase Car Inspection in Dripping Springs, TX

Hill country driving is not gentle. Caliche and gravel roads, low water crossings, long unsealed driveways — a car kept out here takes punishment underneath while looking untouched from the curb.

The damage is all under the car

Gravel at speed sandblasts the underbody, chips the sills and the leading edge of everything, and finds its way into radiators and condensers. Low water crossings soak components that were never meant to be submerged, including wheel bearings and the underside of the exhaust.

None of that appears in a listing, and none of it appears from the driver’s seat. Somebody has to get under the car, which is what an inspection is for.

On this kind of purchase

  • ✓Underbody, sills and fuel and brake lines for stone and gravel damage
  • ✓Radiator and condenser cores for debris and stone strike
  • ✓Wheel bearings and CV boots, which unsealed roads and water crossings punish
  • ✓Suspension bushes and shock condition after a life on rough surfaces

Every inspection also covers the full checklist — engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, tires, body and interior — with a road test where the seller permits one.

Worth knowing first

The seller is at the end of a long dirt road. Is that a problem?

No. Your inspector goes to the vehicle wherever it is, and a rural address is routine.

Is the underside really checked, or just looked at?

Checked and photographed. Corrosion, previous repair, leaks and impact damage underneath are part of every inspection and appear in the report with pictures.

Can you inspect a car with a lift kit or oversized tires?

Yes, and it is worth doing. Modified suspension and geometry wear tires and joints in ways the seller may not have noticed.
