Car Inspection in Bastrop County, TX

Bastrop County sells working vehicles. Trucks that have pulled trailers, run unsealed county roads and spent their lives outside — often honest and often sound, but worn in ways a city car is not, and priced as though they were.

A truck that has worked is not the same as a truck that has commuted

Towing loads a drivetrain in a way mileage does not record. Transmission fluid condition, rear axle play, a hitch that has been used hard, brakes that have been asked to hold a trailer down a grade — none of that appears on the odometer.

Unsealed roads add their own: stone-chipped underbody, dust ingress in the air intake and cabin filter, bushes and ball joints worn early. Worth knowing before you pay a highway-truck price for a ranch truck.

On this kind of purchase

  • ✓Transmission fluid condition and shift quality under load, not just at idle
  • ✓Hitch, wiring and rear suspension for evidence of sustained towing
  • ✓Underbody and air intake for dust and stone damage from unsealed roads
  • ✓Brake pad and disc condition front and rear, measured rather than glanced at

Every inspection also covers the full checklist — engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, tires, body and interior — with a road test where the seller permits one.

Worth knowing first

Do you inspect pickups and work trucks?

Yes, and they are a good part of what we do here. A truck that has towed needs different attention from a car that has not, and the report says which it has been.

Can you get out to Smithville or Paige?

Yes. Rural addresses are normal for us — the inspector goes to the vehicle rather than the other way round.

Is a diesel checked differently?

Yes. Fault codes are read, and the emissions and after-treatment hardware is checked, because a deleted or failing system is an expensive thing to inherit quietly.
