Pre-Purchase Car Inspection in Baltimore, MD

Baltimore cars live on the street, and some of them have been stolen and recovered along the way. A car can come back from a theft with a broken steering column, a replaced ignition and wiring that was spliced in a hurry, and still look entirely normal once the trim is back on.

A recovered car can look like any other

Some models have been targeted by thieves in recent years, and many were recovered, repaired and sold on. A good repair is fine. A rushed one leaves an ignition that sticks, a steering column cover that does not sit right, spliced wiring under the dash and electrical faults that come and go.

Street parking adds its own wear: scraped bumpers, curbed wheels, mirrors replaced after being clipped, and dents pulled and painted. Paint depth readings show which panels have been refinished, so you know what you are looking at.

Maryland requires a safety inspection before a used car can be titled in a new owner’s name, and Baltimore is in the area where emissions testing applies. Neither tells you what has happened to the car, which is what this report is for.

On this kind of purchase

  • ✓Steering column, ignition and keys for signs of theft repair
  • ✓Wiring under the dash for splices and loose connections
  • ✓Panels, bumpers and wheels for street-parking damage, with paint depth readings
  • ✓Fault codes and emissions readiness
  • ✓Title history noted for theft recovery or salvage brands

Every inspection also covers the full checklist — engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, tires, body and interior — with a road test where the seller permits one.

Worth knowing first

Can you tell if a car was stolen and recovered?

Often, from the repair it leaves: a replaced ignition, a damaged or refitted steering column, spliced wiring. The report shows what was found and the title history is noted where it records a theft or salvage brand.

Are you a Maryland inspection station?

No. The Maryland safety inspection needed to title the car is done at a licensed station. Ours is an independent pre-purchase inspection for the buyer, before you commit.

Do you cover Essex, Edgemere and Dundalk?

Yes. See Dundalk and the east side as well.

Can you meet the car where it is parked on the street?

Yes, if it is safe to work around. The inspector arranges the time and place with the seller.

What does it cost?

$249 for an everyday car, truck or SUV, and $499 for luxury, commercial and older vehicles. Nothing is paid until the report is ready.
