Car Inspection in Hays County, TX

Hays County has flooded badly and repeatedly — the Blanco at Wimberley and San Marcos in 2015, and low water crossings across the county most years since. Flood cars do not stay where they drowned. They are dried out, detailed and sold on, and a photograph will never show it.

Water damage is the local risk, and it hides well

A car that has stood in water develops problems on a delay: corrosion behind trim, connectors that go high-resistance months later, an electrical fault nobody can trace. By the time it surfaces, the sale is long done.

The tells are physical and they are not in a history report. Silt in the seat rails and the spare well. A tide line inside the doors. Corrosion on bolt heads under the carpet that should be clean. Those need somebody at the car with a torch.

On this kind of purchase

  • ✓Underbody and sills for the grit and debris moving water drives into them
  • ✓Differential, gearbox and wheel-bearing oil for the milky look water contamination gives
  • ✓Interior floor and boot checked for the silt line a river flood leaves behind
  • ✓Commuter mileage sanity-checked against the I-35 wear on brakes and bushes

Every inspection also covers the full checklist — engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, tires, body and interior — with a road test where the seller permits one.

Worth knowing first

Can you tell whether a car has been flooded?

Often, and more reliably than a history report can. Insurance write-offs get titled, but a car that was never claimed on leaves no paper trail at all — only physical evidence inside it.

I am buying in Kyle but the car is in San Marcos.

Either is fine. We go to the vehicle wherever it is in the county, and the seller only needs to be there to let the inspector in.

Does the inspection cover the underside?

Yes. Corrosion, previous repair and leaks under the car are part of every inspection, and they are photographed.
